Transatlantic Cable podcast, episode 175: The Queen’s Gambit

Discussing Netflix hit The Queen’s Gambit with Costin Raiu and Dinara Saduakassova.

Kaspersky Transatlantic Cable podcast, episode 175: The Queen’s Gambit

The Queen’s Gambit on Netflix has taken the world by storm, no doubt about it. In this upside-down year packed with COVID-19 craziness, it is kind of fitting that a show based on a cerebral game is garnering so much attention.

At Kaspersky, we have a long history with chess and are the official cybersecurity partner of the FIDE World Chess Championship series. A member of our PR team pitched me the idea of watching the show as part of a podcast. I was skeptical about its fit for the weekly chats Dave and I have, but my friend Oksana noted some angles that my amateur chess mind had not considered.

You see, my dear Russian friend had an idea that really was too good to pass up. Instead of our usual Transatlantic Cable format, Dave and I welcomed noted chess lover Costin Raiu — who you may know from his research work at Kaspersky — and International Master and Women’s Grandmaster, four-time World Chess Champion, and Asian Women’s Champion Dinara Saduakassova.

During our 30-plus minute chat, we discuss everything from the Beth Harmon character to international chess tournaments, getting kids involved with the games, stopping cheating, and computers’ impact on the game.
