Kaspersky Lab secures luxury hotel in Kenya

30 April 2015

The InterContinental Hotel in Nairobi has chosen Kaspersky Endpoint Security for Business to strengthen protection of its IT infrastructure and data within it.

Being one of the major hotels in the East Africa region, the InterContinental Hotel in Nairobi, puts a lot of attention to both comfort of its visitors and to security of their private data. To strengthen protection of its IT infrastructure and data within it, the hotel has chosen Kaspersky Endpoint Security for Business. This security solution now provides real-time protection to more than 200 workstations, 15 servers, 2 networks and multiple devices simultaneously used at the hotel.

Many luxury hotels attract attention of hackers who target top executives from all over the world. The Darkhotel espionage campaign is an example of this kind of attack: cybercriminals compromised hotel Wi-Fi networks and under a disguise of a software update installed backdoors on computers of unsuspecting visitors in order to get access to their sensitive data. Hotel’s infrastructure should also be protected from malware, data leakages, etc.

The InterContinental hotel network on a daily basis sees the storing and transmission of confidential documents and email, and manages credit card payments. In 2013 Anthony Njogu, IT manager at the InterContinental Hotel, decided that the hotel needed to enhance its IT protection. Along with strong security features, the solution was required to provide the IT team with a high level of visibility and control necessary to maintain operational systems and services for staff and guests alike.

Anthony Njogu discussed this with specialists from Ariel Technology, Nairobi-based Kaspersky Platinum Partner, who recommended Kaspersky Endpoint Security for Business Advanced as a solution that meets the hotel’s needs. It delivers a broad array of tools and technologies managed from one central console, easy to deploy and to use. The solution is a complete security platform with anti-malware, encryption, mobile, vulnerability assessment and patching, policy enforcement and control tools.

“The Kaspersky Lab solution has had a hugely positive impact on our operations and the confidence of our employees regarding the security of our network. The anti-virus protection covers everything from web browsing, files on the network, and removable storage. The hotel can now monitor and track where attacks are coming from and take the necessary steps remotely to protect its network rather than manually dealing with every device or machine. Folders and files are now encrypted to keep confidential business information safe and we are now looking closely at rolling out mobile security and mobile device management,” says Anthony Njogu, IT manager at the InterContinental Hotel.

“The centralised remote monitoring of Kaspersky Endpoint Security for Business enables IT staff to spot trends, anticipate problems, and take the necessary preventative action. We are certain that by ensuring that IT systems and infrastructure are well protected, the hotel is saving itself from financial and reputational risks and proves a high level of customer service”, says Bethwel Opil, Channel Sales Manager of Kaspersky Lab East Africa.
