Kaspersky Lab, a leading developer of secure content and threat management solutions, announces that Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2011 received top marks in On-Demand testing carried out by AV-Comparatives in February.

AV-Comparatives’ experts tested the solutions of twenty different developers on computers running Windows XP, Service Pack 3. Using a collection of sample malware and other files, each product was tested to determine its malware detection rate, the number of false positives it produced and its scanning speed. The malware collection used was made up of files created within the last 6 months.

Kaspersky Lab’s solution passed the test with flying colors and was awarded an Advanced+ rating, the highest possible. Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2011 produced only 12 false positives, which is well below the industry average for this test. Notably, the 12 files associated with the false positives are almost non-existent on Kaspersky Lab users’ computers, according to information provided by the Kaspersky Security Network, Kaspersky Lab’s globally distributed cloud-based malware detection system. Meanwhile, the product’s detection rate was as high as 97%.

“We have carried out extensive work to optimize our products and we are happy to see this reflected in the excellent results from AV-Comparatives’ test,” said Nikita Shvetsov, Head of Kaspersky Lab’s Anti-Malware Research Unit. “Nevertheless, we recommend focusing on tests which simulate the situations on users’ computers during a malware attack, such as ‘Zero-day’, ‘Real-World’ or ‘Dynamic’ tests. Despite the small quantity of malicious programs used in these tests, they are capable of checking all the technologies and protection levels in antivirus products. The malicious files in these tests are far more relevant than those used in some of the more outdated On-Demand tests.”
